Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)
The institution has constituted the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as per the UGC Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions Regulations, 2015. These regulations are based on the Government of India’s Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee addresses discriminatory behavior, including sexual harassment, and recommends remedial actions, including punishment to the offender.
Objective
The ICC aims to sensitize employees about their fundamental right to a safe and healthy environment at the workplace. It educates on what constitutes sexual harassment, the preventive measures in place, and provides a fair mechanism for dealing with such conduct. The Committee serves as a dedicated task force that constantly monitors existing arrangements and suggests additional security measures.
Functions of ICC:
- • To prevent sexual harassment at the workplace.
- • To prevent discrimination and sexual harassment against women by promoting gender amity among students and employees.
- • To provide a conducive and congenial environment for women.
Who can approach ICC?
Any aggrieved woman who has suffered harassment at the workplace can approach ICC. Aggrieved women include:
- a. Women who are employees
- b. Students
Procedure for Filing a Complaint:
- • Complaints regarding Sexual Harassment must be made in legible handwriting or typed on paper.
- • Nature of the complaint should be clearly stated with date and location.
- • The complaint should be filed within three months from the date of the incident or, for multiple incidents, within three months from the last incident.
- • Complaints cannot be anonymous, and the complainant's name and address should be clear.
- • As per the 2013 Act, if the complainant is physically incapable of filing a complaint, a relative, friend, co-worker, or any person with knowledge of the incident, with written consent, may file the complaint.
- • The written complaint should be handed over to any internal member of the ICC.
Working of ICC:
- • All complaints will be handled confidentially.
- • The ICC handles matters of sexual harassment or discrimination against staff and students only.
- • Other grievances should be submitted to the Grievance Redressal Cell.
